This pendant is made from raw noble shungite, secured in an artful silver plated prong setting. Hung from a cotton cord, the necklace is adjustable from 18 to 20 inches and fastens with a lobster clasp.
The Shungite piece measures approximately 1-1/8 inches long by 5/8 inches wide.
Silver Shungite, which is also called Noble, is a variety of Shungite which contains from 94% to 98% carbon, much higher than the regular Shungite which only contains about 30% carbon. It s was excavated near Shunga village in Karelia. Silver Shungite is lustrous and shiny, it almost looks metallic. It also has a higher fullerene content. Fullerene is one of 4 known crystalline modifications of carbon.Fullerenes are found in very minute quantities in nature, usually formed by lightening charges. How they came to be present in the Shungite mineral remains a mystery.
